Preity Zinta awarded honorary doctorate by UEL | Total Filmy


Tinsel villa's “pretty woman”, Preity Zinta was awarded honorary doctorate of arts on Friday by the University of East London (UEL) for her immense contribution to cinema and her dedication towards humanitarian work.

This glamorous lassie, who few years back bought a team in IPL, has acted in more than 30 films in Bollywood, and has also featured in Telugu, Punjabi and English language films.
On receiving the doctorate, elated Preity said, “I am extremely humbled and excited at the nomination as it really makes me feel that my work has been worthy.
“I may not have managed to become a doctor in my younger years but that dream is now being fulfilled.”
Preity adopts 34 girls on 34th birthday
This dimple-faced actress shot to fame with her debut film, 'Dil Se', featuring Shahrukh Khan, in 2001 and her later release in the same year, 'Soldier' earned her applauds for her acting.



Besides, 'Kya Kehna', 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke', 'The Hero: LoveStory of a Spy', 'Armaan', 'Koi... Mil Gaya', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', 'Veer-Zaara', 'Salaam Namaste' and 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' are some of her best films.
On the social front, Preity is the UN Aids Goodwill Ambassador, which is working against the transmission of HIV/Aids from mother to child.
Not only this, interestingly, on her 34th birthday, Preity adopted 34 orphan girls from Rishikesh, and currently she is looking after their education, other basic necessities.
Professor Patrick McGhee, vice-chancellor of the University, said, “I am delighted that we are able to honour Preity Zinta. We noticed her involvement in the Delhi blood donor camps and her tireless work in, and the promotion of, raising awareness of the challenges over Aids, human trafficking and the plight of street children.
“In addition to all this, her involvement as ambassador for the Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards and the Loomba Trust proves that she is not afraid to stand up for justice and those in need.”
“We have also noted her writing over the past 10 years on important topics for the BBC,” added McGhee.
